Coraline is a third-person adventure game based on the story of Coraline Jones, a girl who moves with her parents into the Pink Palace. While exploring her new home, Coraline discovers a small hidden door that leads to the Other World, an alternate version of her life where everything initially appears more interesting. There she meets the Other Mother and Other Father, who resemble her real parents but have buttons instead of eyes. The story follows Coraline as she gradually discovers that the Other World is dangerous and searches for a way to protect herself and her family.

Exploring the Pink Palace

Players control Coraline while exploring the Pink Palace, its apartments, surrounding areas, and the Other World. The game does not use separate action levels in the traditional sense. Instead, progress comes from moving through different locations, speaking with characters, completing tasks, and unlocking new parts of the story. Coraline meets characters such as Wybie, the Cat, Miss Spink, Miss Forcible, and Mr. Bobinsky while investigating both versions of her surroundings.

Tasks, Mini-Games, and Collectibles

Much of the gameplay is based on exploration and short activities. Some tasks are required to continue the story, while others can be repeated or completed for additional rewards. Players can encounter activities such as:

路         finding and collecting useful objects;

路         completing fetch quests for other characters;

路         shooting targets with a slingshot;

路         matching cards;

路         cooking pancakes;

路         balancing while moving across narrow objects;

路         completing music-based mini-games.

Buttons serve as collectible currency. They can be earned during activities and used to obtain additional content such as outfits or passes that allow certain challenges to be skipped. This gives players a reason to search locations and repeat optional activities instead of only following the main objective.

Discovering the Truth About the Other World

As Coraline spends more time in the Other World, its friendly appearance begins to disappear. The Other Mother wants Coraline to remain there permanently and become part of the artificial family she has created. Coraline must continue exploring, solving tasks, and uncovering information that helps her understand the Other Mother’s plans. The Cat also becomes an important companion as Coraline learns more about the rules of this alternate place.

The game is mainly played by moving through 3D environments, interacting with characters and objects, and completing the mini-games connected to each part of the story. There is no combat-focused progression system or multiplayer mode. Progress is tied to completing objectives and reaching new story scenes. Coraline combines exploration, environmental interaction, collectibles, puzzles, and mini-games while following the main conflict between Coraline and the Other Mother.
