Kerbal Space Program is a spaceflight simulation game where players design spacecraft, launch them, and explore the Kerbol star system with a crew of small green characters called Kerbals. There is no traditional story with a fixed protagonist or ending. Instead, the game is built around creating a space program, solving engineering problems, and completing self-chosen or mode-specific goals. Spacecraft follow aerodynamic and orbital physics, so successful missions require attention to weight, fuel, thrust, trajectory, and landing conditions.

From the Assembly Building to Orbit

Players construct rockets, planes, rovers, satellites, and other vehicles from individual parts. Engines, fuel tanks, wings, landing gear, command modules, batteries, and scientific equipment all affect how a vehicle behaves. After construction, the craft can be launched from the Kerbal Space Center. Players then control staging, direction, engine power, and maneuvers while trying to reach orbit or travel farther into space. A poorly designed vehicle may spin, run out of fuel, break apart, or fail during landing.

Exploring the Kerbol System

The game contains planets and moons rather than traditional levels. Each destination has different gravity, atmosphere, terrain, and travel requirements. During missions, players can:

路         launch rockets and aircraft;

路         place satellites into orbit;

路         land Kerbals on moons and planets;

路         perform scientific experiments;

路         conduct EVA activities outside spacecraft;

路         dock ships together in orbit;

路         build space stations and surface bases.

Reaching a destination is only part of the challenge. Players may also need enough fuel to land safely, return to orbit, and bring the crew back to Kerbin. Different mission designs are therefore required for different planets and moons.

Three Ways to Run a Space Program

Kerbal Space Program includes Sandbox, Science, and Career modes. Sandbox provides access to all parts immediately and allows unrestricted building. Science Mode adds progression by requiring players to perform experiments and earn Science points to unlock new technology. Career Mode adds funding, contracts, facility upgrades, strategies, and management of the entire space program.

The main gameplay loop consists of designing a vehicle, testing it, launching a mission, learning from failures, and improving the next design. Players can attempt simple orbital flights or create complex missions involving multiple spacecraft, docking, surface vehicles, and permanent bases. Kerbal Space Program focuses on construction, flight control, orbital mechanics, exploration, science, and planning rather than combat or a fixed narrative campaign.
